D.P. Barry & Co. offer Expert Advice on all aspects of Data Protection

Data Protection is the Law that protects the rights of individuals in relation to the processing of their personal data. These rights are contained in The Data Protection Acts 1988  and 2003.  The Acts state that information about you held by a Data Controller (an individual or an organisation who collects, stores or processes any data about you) must be:

  • obtained and processed fairly
  • only held for its specified and lawful purpose
  • held safe and secure
  • accurate, complete and up to date
  • provided a copy to you if you request it.

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is responsible for upholding these rights and if you feel that your rights are being infringed you can make a complaint to the Commissioner.

The Data Protection Commissioner has a wide range of enforcement powers and the penalties for breaches of the Data Protection legislation are severe.

If you think that your Data rights are being infringed or you are a Data Controller who has received a complaint of a proposed breach or you wish to ensure your storage of personal Data is compliant we at D.P. Barry & Co. can provide you with expert advice.
